IHAD sheds light on pet overpopulation

ISAR’s International Homeless Animals’ Day Set to Shed Light on Pet Overpopulation Epidemic and the Spay/Neuter and Adoption Solution

i June 15, 2019

August 17, 2019 marks ISAR’s 28th annual commemoration of International Homeless Animals’ Day® (IHAD®)

Please join us on Saturday, August 17th, as ISAR along with animal protection organizations, humane societies, rescue groups, veterinary professionals, caring individuals, public officials, and animal-friendly businesses from throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and abroad, join together to send the spay/neuter and adoption message.

About International Homeless Animals’ Day

Over a decade ago, ISAR realized the need to bring widespread public attention to the overwhelming crisis of pet overpopulation, and in 1992 created and sponsored International Homeless Animals’ Day, a day that has come to symbolize hope for homeless and unwanted companion animals.  Since its inception, ISAR’s International Homeless Animals’ Day has continued to grow and gain momentum in the war against dog and cat overpopulation. To date, International Homeless Animals’ Day observances have been held in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, in over 50 countries, on 6 continents.

Always observed on the third Saturday in August, IHAD sheds light on the tragedy of pet overpopulation and the urgent need for affordable spay/neuter programs to help save the lives of animals by educating the public on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets and adopting their next pet from a shelter.

Getting Involved is Easy

The need for companion animal sterilization to reduce the suffering in the lives of homeless companion animals has been emphasized by dedicated individuals, rescue centers, shelters, animal-welfare groups and captured through events that create a positive impact on the lives of animals including candlelight vigils, spay/neuter and microchip clinics, blessings of the animals, adopt-a-thons, dog walks, open houses, information stalls, and much more.

Please join our worldwide crusade to enlighten society, elected officials, and the media about the urgent need for affordable spay/neuter and adoption programs, in an effort to halt the euthanasia and suffering of unwanted companion animals and feral and stray cats and dogs that have been abandoned and left to fend for themselves.

We encourage local animal rescue and protection organizations, individuals, spay/neuter advocates, businesses, veterinarians, political leaders, local celebrities, teacher, library and museum associations, school students, and scouting groups to organize an observance in honor of International Homeless Animals’ Day.

ISAR offers a free IHAD planning packet to anyone who wishes to coordinate an event, whether a large gathering or a modest observance. Our packet includes suggestions for site selection, reaching target audiences, speakers, press releases, colorful posters, ISAR’s proclamations and much more! Interested parties may request a free IHAD planning packet by contacting ISAR.

All confirmed 2019 IHAD events will be promoted to thousands of people on ISAR’s website: www.isaronline.org. Also as promoted on ISAR’s online communities such as Facebook and Twitter.
